Eleuthera is one of the most beautiful islands in the Bahamas — and one of the most underrated wedding destinations in the Caribbean. Stretching 100 miles of coastline, pink sand beaches, turquoise flats, and a laid-back luxury that you simply can't manufacture, Eleuthera offers something that most popular wedding destinations don't: intimacy.

As a photographer based here, I've had the privilege of shooting weddings at the island's most stunning venues. Here's my honest, local guide to the best spots to say 'I do' in Eleuthera.

1. French Leave Resort

French Leave is the crown jewel of Eleuthera weddings. Set on a gorgeous stretch of Atlantic-facing beach in Governor's Harbour, this boutique resort blends colonial Bahamian charm with modern luxury. The natural coral stone, whitewashed interiors, and sweeping ocean views create a backdrop that genuinely needs no decoration.

Best for: couples wanting luxury without pretension — intimate, elegant, and completely unforgettable.

Photographer's tip: The late afternoon light hits the shoreline at French Leave at around 5pm and creates golden hour conditions that last 45 minutes. Plan your ceremony for 4:30pm.

2. The Potlatch Resort

The Potlatch is a favourite among couples who want a full resort buyout experience. Tucked on a private peninsula with water on both sides, it offers unparalleled sunset views from the west and dramatic Atlantic shots from the east. The property's old-world Bahamian character — all wood, warm tones, and sea breezes — photographs beautifully in any light.

Best for: larger weddings, full resort buyouts, and couples who want variety of settings within one property.

Photographer's tip: The dock at Potlatch during golden hour is one of the most cinematic portrait locations on the island. Don't skip it.

3. The Other Side Resort

The Other Side is Eleuthera's newest luxury property and it's redefining destination weddings in the Bahamas. Built into a hillside with panoramic views of both the Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea, it offers architectural drama unlike anywhere else on the island. The property is wellness-forward and eco-luxe — perfect for couples who care about sustainability and aesthetics equally.Best for: design-conscious couples, editorial-style photography, smaller intimate gatherings.

Photographer's tip: The hilltop terrace at The Other Side offers a 360-degree view. Sunrise portraits here are extraordinary.

4. Private beach ceremonies

Some of the most beautiful weddings I've ever photographed weren't at resorts at all — they were on Eleuthera's wild, undeveloped beaches. The island has miles of accessible coastline on both the Atlantic and Caribbean sides, from the famous pink sand of Harbour Island to the glassy flats of the central island. A private beach ceremony with a sunset backdrop and a handful of loved ones is something no resort can fully replicate.

Best for: elopements, micro-weddings, and couples who want a raw, natural Bahamian experience.

Harbour Island — a quick ferry away

Just a short water taxi from North Eleuthera, Harbour Island ("Briland" to locals) is famous for its pink sand beach, candy-coloured colonial architecture, and golf-cart lifestyle. Many couples extend their Eleuthera wedding weekend to include a portrait session on Harbour Island's iconic shoreline. It's one of the most photographed beaches in the world for good reason.
